The Liverpool Grand National was won bv Sheila’s Cottage by a length from First Of The Dandies, with Cromwell six lengths away third. Only 14 of the 43 runners finished. The favourite, Silver Game fell at Beecher's Brook on the first circuit. Sheila’s Cottage is the first mare to win the Grand National since 1902. She is by Cottage from Sheila, and is owned by Rlr. F. J. Proctor, who bought her for £3500 last October. Mr. Proctor said Ills mare would not race again but would go to the stud. The time for the race was 9.24 4-5. Hundreds of racegoers came by aircraft from many parts of England and the Continent. The Liverpool Spring Cup resulted: PORTMANTEAU. 1; COMMAND PERFORMANCE, 2; SILVER PENCIL. 3. Twelve started.
