FIRST APPEARANCE

WAIROA MUNICIPAL BAND VISIT TO GISBORNE Making their first appearance in Gisborne in their new uniforms, members of the Wairoa Municipal Band will be the guests of the Gisborne Home Guard Band this week-end, when botn bands will take part in several functions.

The Wairoa band now has 25 playing members. Five of them are still attending school and some will- be making their first public appearance. All but live members of the band were taught to play their instruments by the conductor, Mr. R. Moore. The band will arrive at Gisborne on Saturday morning and at 1.30 p.m. on Saturday will take part, together with the Gisborne Home Guard Band and the P.B. Highland Pipe Band, in a march from the Chief Post Office to the Childers Road Reserve. Several inter-house girls' marching teams, including two from Wairoa. also will take part in the march.

At the reserve a programme of athletes and inter-house marching will be given, while the visiting band will give a marching display. On Saturday evening the band will be the guests of the Home Guard Band at a dance in the Army Hall. Both bands, together with the P.B. Highland Pipe Band, will attend a church parade on Sunday morning, and a picnic and cricket match will be held at Tatapouri on Sunday afternoon. A concert featuring the Gisborne Home Guard Band, the Wairoa band and a number of local artists will be presented in the Opera House on Sunday evening
