THEFT OF BROOCH
"This girl went into Adair Bros.’ showroum and removed the brooch from a dress which was hanging up and later was seen wearing the ornament,” said Detective-Sergeant R. H. Waterson, when a 22-year-old Maori girl, Janet Rangi, Crawford road, appeared before Mr. E. L Walton, S.M., in the Gisborne Magistrate’s Court this morning. She was charged with the theft of a brooch valued at £1 10s from Adair Bros, on March 1. The girl later frankly admitted to the detective that she took the brooch. Rangi pleaded guilty and was convicted and admitted to probation for six months.
