BANKING ACT CASE DR. EVATT’S SUBMISSION (10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, March 16. The trading banks’ claim that the Banking Act 1947, contravened section 92 of the Constitution guaranteeing freedom of inter-State trade were the most important objections of all, said Dr. H. V. Evatt, in the Full High Court yesterday when the bank case entered its twenty-fifth day. He claimed, however, that tKe Commonwealth case was clearly established by Privy Council judgments in two well-known constitutional cases. The only limitation of power of the Commonwealth and States to make laws and regulations concerning trade was in laws directed against the passage of" goods in the course of commerce across State borders.
