MINES RESUME WORK

STRONGMAN & LIVERPOOL (P.A.) GREYMOUTH, March 15. The Strongman State coal mine, which has been idle since Tuesday last because of a dispute involving a deputy and a road worker, resumed work this morning as a result of a settlement reached yesterday when the members of the Runanga State Miners Union were addressed at a mass meeting by the Minister of Mines, Mr. A. McLagan. The terms of the settlement have not been announced. The Liverpool Slate mine, which had been idle since Wednesday because of the death of a horse driver at the mine, also resumed work this morning. Mr. McLagan, who was accompanied by Mr. A. Prendeville. a member of the Coal Council, arrived from Christchurch yesterday morning to attend the meeting. Last evening Mr. McLagan had a conference with (lie members of the executive of the Miners’ Union at Runanga. Messrs. McLagan and Prendeville left this morning on their return to Christchurch.
