SCOUT LEADERSHIP
THIS YEAR’S PRIORITY LAY MEMBERS CONFER (P.A.) TIMARU, March 15. The first conference of South Island Scout lay members was opened at Timaru on Friday and concluded yesterday. Sixty representatives from all parts of the South Island attended under the chairmanship of Mr. J. C. Bentley, Timaru. The purpose of the conference was to stimulate the liaison between lay members and the movement and to bring about a better appreciation of the responsibilities of citizenship. Many remits were carried, including a Christchurch suggestion that the question of obtaining scout leaders be given precedence over all other administrative work in Scouting this year. The conference in reply to a message of goodwill sent a telegram to the Governor-General Sir Bernard Freyberg, expressing appreciation of his interest.
A further telegram was sent to Lady Baden-Powell acknowledging her help and inspiration to the movement at all times.
