King’s.—No one should miss “The Best Years Of Our Lives,” which is being screened at the King’s Theatre, for it ranks among the finest pictures that have come out of Hollywood. The best years, as conveyed in the picture, probably mean the years spent overseas by three typical Americans, representing the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. The acting is on a very high plane. Fredric March has never been so effective as the Army man ; Harold Russell gives a magnificent performance as the handless ex-Navy man; and Dana Andrews is strong and forceful as the airman with a flighty wife. Regent.—“lt Happened in Brooklyn,” concludes at the Regent today. Red Skelton in M.G.M.’s uproarious comedy hit, “Merton of the Movies,” commences tomorrow. Featured in the film are Virginia O’Brien, Gloria Grahame, Leon Ames, Alan Mowbray and Charles I). Brown. The picture describes the adventures of a movie-struck, country youth, played by Red Skelton, who tries to break into the Hollywood of the early nineteen hundreds. His adventures in the old-time silent movie studios are among the funniest ever seen on the screen.
Majestic.—Warner Bros., newest film drama, “Nobody Lives Forever,” provides John Garfield with a role which should go far toward pleasing his staunchest fans. . The popular screen “toughie,” co-starred in the picture with Geraldine Fitzgerald, portrays a rugged and ready army veteran, struggling to re-establish himself as a "biggie” in American rackets, a role peculiarly suited to the Garfield talents. The cast includes Walter Brennan, Faye Emerson, and George Tobias.
