RUSSIAN PRESSURE
CZECHOSLOVAK CHANGE (P-A.) AUCKLAND, March 9. “The majority of the people of Czechoslovakia did not want a Communist Government,” said a Christchurch . businessman, Mr. J. F. McLaughlin, who arrived by air from the United States today. The change of Government in Czechoslovakia was brought about by Russian pressure and traitors from within, but the people of Czechoslovakia had lost faith in Britain and the West. Mr.. McLaughlin said he had business interests in Rumania before the war and was in Czechoslovakia for several months until he left in January. He had tried unsuccessfully to save some of his business associates from behind the “iron curtain.”
The Russians had promised the Czechoslovakians a lot of help, but they would have preferred the Marshal] Plan aid.
