PRICES ADVANCE NAPIER WOOL SALE CONTINENTAL BIDDING (S.R.) NAPIER, March 15. An overnight change in the wool market in Napier was brought about by the increased activity of the Continent, and in consequence when the second portion of the 43,000-bale entry was dealt with this morning 50's and better advanced by fully 3d per lb. on Friday’s quotations, while coarse and strong wool also showed an unmistakable firming tendency.
From the onlookers’ angle, the sale certainly bore a different complexion, the bidding being keener, more forceful end with greater numbers entering the competition.
Bradford was outbid frequently by the operations of the Continent, which were said to include orders on behalf of German and Russian interests. As on Friday the bulk of the catalogue comprised ewe wool, and this morning's earlier sales included some exceptionally prepared clips. Fine ewe wool sold readily at up to 28 *,d per lb., while strong wools made from 22d to 25jd. The market appeared to have improved also for bellies and pieces, good pieces making from 17Ad to and bellies selling from 13Td to 16d.
