CALLING INVISIBLES

ACTION PLAN No. 26 (Sponsored by Gisborne and East Coast Y.M.C.A. for Boys and Girls of Gisborne and District)

Today, boys and girls, we want to tell you mainly about the coining exhibition of G.I. work to be held in the Y.M.C.A. All those who have not yet completed their work, nursery friezes, whittling, colour stories, scrap books, or any other competitions should do so as soon as possible.

You will have seen the exhibits in the Cash Stores window and, of course, the Punch and Judy show yesterday.

In the next Action Plan we shall give you the full details of the date and arrangements for the main exhibition in the Y.M.C.A,

THE PADRE’S CORNER Do you sometimes think about prayer? What is real praying? Is it just saying the same few words every night before we go to bed, or is there something more to it than that? There BEST KIND OF TALKING Prayer is the very best kind of talking, for it is talking to Jesus. We know that He is our best friend. Then praying is just talking to your Best Friend. You find a quiet place and time and then you talk to Him. And you must talk just as a girl or boy talks to his or her best grown-up friend. Don't use the “Thees" and “Thous” that the minister uses, but talk in your own way for that is what He wants you to do. Tell Him about everything, your successes and failures, your hopes and fears, your home life and school life, what makes you glad and what makes you sad. Tell Him about your friends and those who are not your friends. Tell Him what you find hard and ask Him to help you. Tell Him where you fail and fall and ask Him to strengthen you. Tell Him about folk known to you who are in need. BEST KIND OF LISTENING And prayer is listening—listening quietly to what Jesus has to say to you. Remember how little Samuel said: “Speak Lord, for thy servant heareth.” That is what you must do, and then listen quietly, and into your quiet mind will steal the still small voice, and you will know that Jesus has spoken to you. Then you must do the things that He tells you, just as Samuel did long ago. Now here is a lovely poem about this very thing. AT EVENING In the quiet hush of the evening hour When the work of the day is done And our Father lights His candles With the setting of the sun, I like to think of the day that's past And tell Him .of work begun, The tasks completed, the friends I’ve made The battles I’ve lost or won. I know He is glad when I “play the game,” So whether I lost or won Doesn’t matter so much if 1 did my best

Playing fair with everyone. And when I am quiet in heart and mind And listen, God speaks to me. He helps me choose between “good and “bes” The way that is right for me.
