AGREEMENT REACHED HOLLYWOOD PRODUCTS BRITISH DUTY REPEALED LONDON, March 11. The President of the Board of Trade, Mr. H. Wilson, announced in the House of Commons today that the 75 per cent ad valorem duty on American films imported by Britain, imposed in August, 1947, would be withdrawn and normal exports from Hollywood would be resumed as soon as possible. Mr. Wilson said the film agreement fixed film earnings to be permitted to the United States for new films and reissues at 17,000,000 dollars a year for the first two years. He added that Britain at present. was paying at the rate of approximately 50,000,000 dollars a year as remittances on reissues of films already in Britain. Additional remittances in dollars of sums equivalent to the earnings of British films in the United States would be permitted.
