OBITUARY
MR. GEO. SHASKEY 45 YEARS IN GISBORNE The deatli of Air. George J. Shaskey, which occurred in the Cook Hospital on Wednesday, removed a wellrespected Gisborne man of 45 years’ standing, and a life-long supporter of amateur sport. Mr. Shaskey came to the Gisborne district as a young man from Banks Peninsula, where his people lived. His father was the late Mr. Matthew Shaskey, widely known in the peninsula. An offer of a branch managership for the Oppcnheimer Casing Company led to Mr. Shaskey settling in this district, in which he represented his firm both at Gisborne and Tokomaru Bay. where lie became a foundation member of the Hautanoa Sports Club, He was keenly interested in Rugby football, boxing and rifle-shoot-ing, in particular, and held executive positions in a number of clubs. In his later years Air. Shaskey had not enjoyed the best of health, and since his retirement last year he had been declining gradually. His death was however, and news of it will come as* a shock to his many friends in the community.
He is survived by Mrs. Shaskey, formerly Miss Anne Turnbull, Makauri, and 10 children, 18 grandchildren, and three great-grand-children. The daughters and sons are Alesdamcs G. Lloyd, F. Raggett, E. Maher, R. Burson, and I. Murphitt, Gisborne, Mrs. P. Raggett, Mangakino, Airs. M. Kinnaird, Auckland; Alessrs. W. and J. Shaskey, Gisborne, and Mr. G R\ M. Shaskey, Wellington. The interment will take place at the Taruheru Cemetery this afternoon.
