AMUSEMENTS

Regent.—M.G.M.’s mammoth musical, “It Happuened in Brooklyn,” commences today. Starring Kathryn Grayson, Peter Lawford. Jimmy Durante and Frank Sinatra, the film is sparking entertainment. It features a wealth of musical talent, even Peter Lawford singing for the first time on the screen ; he gives a spirited rendition of "Whose Baby Are You.” The engaging story tells of a shy young man’s faith in his home-town, a pretty young school teacher with whom he falls in love, an English nobleman who completes the triangle and the inimitable Jimmy Durante as a school janitor. Majestic.—" Blind Spot,” Columbia’s suspense drama concluding tonight, stars Chester Morris with Constance Dowling. The associate comedy, "Blondie’s Holiday,” stars Penny Singleton. The final chapter of “The Royal Mounted Rides Again,” opens the programme. The Young N.Z. Club programme tomorrow afternoon will be headed by Roy Rogers in "San Fernando Valley.” John Garfield in "Nobody Lives Forever,” commences on Saturday night. King’s. —No one should miss “The Best Years Of Our Lives,” which is being screened at the King’s Theatre, for it ranks among the finest pictures that have come out of Hollywood. The best years, as conveyed in the picture, probably mean the years spent overseas by three typical Americans, representing the Army, the Navy and the Air Force. The acting is on a very high plane. Fredric March has never been so effective ns the Army man ; Harold Russell gives a magnificent performance ns the handless ex-Navy man; and Dana Andrews is strong and forceful as the airman with a flighty wife.
