DROP AT NAPIER
GISBORNE WOOL’ 6d PER LB. ON FLEECE FIRM ON AUCKLAND (S.R.) NAPIER, March 12. A drop of up to 6d per lb. on fleeces as compared with the January quotations was experienced by East Coast growers at the N a Pler wool sale today, when the first portion of a 43-000-bale offering came forward. Growers present estimated the decline to be quite 6d below what they would have expected had they sold earlier, but rostrum opinion was that the prices were fully firm on Auckland, with a hardening tendency for the ' better-grown fleece wool. Pieces, however, suffered a marked reverse, lambs’ wool being weak and quite frequently not receiving a bid. The buyers appeared to be interested in lines rather than in small parcels and anything not up to standard among the small lots fell sadly by the way. The bidding was erratic and to Joint Organisation was entrusted the disposal of a greater portion of the offering then at the January sale. The catalogue rate-taking was punctuated with “No bids at par” to a greater degree than has been experienced this season.” The easing tendency this morning reflected the recent downward trend in prices. An East Coast clip at 30d per lb. for greasy fleece wool was among the top quotations this morning. The market was strong for crutchings, good lines fetching to 28Jd. Details of the selling of noted East Coast clips were as follows: Tangihau: AE, 201-d; B. 18Jd; C, 183 d; cot., 15id; AD, 17£d; BD, 16d; BS, no bid; necks, 12d tp); Ist pcs., 133 d; sdy pieces, lOd; bels, 9Jd; A lambs, 18Jd; B lambs, 16£d: C lambs, lid.
