CHINA INSISTENT
NO 'STRINGS' ON U.S. AID ATTITUDE DEFINED NANKING, Mar. 10. The Chinese Government, anticipating United States aid with alternate hope and apprehension, today made known its attitude that any assistance conditional upon special provisions would not be welcomed in Nanking. The Foreign Minister, Mr. Wang Shin-Chieh, told the Kuomintang’s central political council that China will appreciate aid only when there are no strings attached to it. He said, however, that China would not object to any general provisions that also applied to other countries receiving United States assistance. He made no mention what conditions were attendant upon the 570,000,000dollar aid programme, which he previously described as giving China "a slight advantage” economically.
