GISBORNE PEOPLE DRINK MORE MILK
A suggestion that the people of Gisborne are drinking more milk and more tea than normally and less water because of the low level of the borough supply is borne out by the fact that in recent weeks the consumption of milk in the residential areas has increased very noticeably. The secretary of the Okitu Cooperative Dairying Company, Limited, Mr. H. P. Hamilton, admitted today that milk supplies had decreased, but said they were holding up well in comparison with other centres.
Because of the increased demand in the residential area adjustments in the school milk supplies had been necessary, he said. Town schools were being given preference in the allocation of milk to those institutions and the country schools were receiving restricted quotas when supplies were adequate. The supply from the treatment house was being spread as equitably as possible through the country districts.
