SHEEPDOG TRIALS

TOLAGA BAY MEET F. SHERIFF’S PREMIER A. M. LINCOLN DOES WELL Generally acknowledged to be among the most successful ever held by the club, the Tolaga Bay Sheep dog Trial Club's field meeting concluded at the week end, when a gathering was held at which trophies were presented and the thanks of the club extended to many helpers in connection with the trials. A feature of the trials was the success of Miss Kathleen Gordon. Anaura Bay. who registered a unique perfor- | mance by winning the zigzag _ hunt- 1 away and taking fourth place in the straight hunt. Her success was a popular one, and fully deserved the congratulations which were showered on Miss Gordon. The trials were held in conditions of. intense heat, which had its effect upon the standard of performance in several t cases. The unflagging work of an oner- j gelie committee under Mr. A. IV. I Dover, with Mr. Geoff Crowley as secretary. was warmly commended by club members competitors and spectators ! who prov ided a strong gallery on each j day of the meet. M. Lincoln was prominent, winning the specials presented by Mesdames A. Johnstone, and D. Sherriff. Messrs. G. Utting, W. A. Overy, A Donald. Gisborne Transport Ltd., and the Panikau Ctation management. L. Hansen won specials presented by Mr. R. Berry, and H. Sherriff took Mrs. Sherriffs special, and Mrs J Ciarer’s soecial. Alan Dever carried off Mr. A. C. Warburton's special. Messrs. Crowley Bros’ special, and Mr. O. G James’ special. Rex Shelton was awarded the Utting special for the best aggregate under 21 years, and also the James Motors Ltd. special for the most promising youth: and the A. J. Mclntosh special for the youth doing best work at the yards went to J. Watkins, while T. Dever took the T. Burgess special for the youth making most points in Classes II and 111.

The special prize presented by Mr. A. Ross for the best Maori competitor was awarded to Peter Edwards: and Miss K. Gordon carried off specials donated by Messrs T. Burgess and G. Smyth for the best Indy entrant. Three bench classes were conducted during the trials, W. Percy being awarded the V. F. Hurl.stone snecial for the best smooth-coated dog; J. Tibbie the E. Crowley special for the best rough-coated dog. The D. McNeil specials for the best-looking pup, six months and under, created good competition with the following placings:—John Sherriff 1: Graeme Sayers, 2; Fredelia Sayers, 3.

Donations were received and acknowledged by the club, during the meeting, from Messrs. D. H. Hawkins, R. Craill. K. Mackintosh. E. Kelly, Prince and Rennie, J. Lincoln, Alan Johnstone, P. Murphy, and Gisborne Transport, Ltd.
