100 CHINESE KILLED
AMMUNITION EXPLOSION CITY BLOCK DESTROYED (10.45 a.m.) CHANGHAI. March 9. An Associated Press dispatch reports that a Chinese ammunition dump blew up at Tsignato on Tuesday, levelling a city block east of the docks and causing 250 casualties, including 100 killed, The explosion was within half a mile of the docks where the U.S.S. Estes, flagship of the West Pacific Fleet, and the American hospital ship Repose were moored. There were no casualties among the Americans. A fire which followed the explosion was under control in two hours.
