Picture Sold for £450

A painting by the famous New Zealand artist, C. F. Goldie, was sold at auction in Auckland on Monday for £450. A study of the Maori chief Te Aho-o-te Rangi Wharepu, it was offered with other household effects and was bought by an Auckland woman. The painting which measured about 2ft Gin square, caused much interest among the bidders, who began at £3OO. The subject of the painting, one of the last surviving Maori chiefs who fought in the Maori Wars against the English, died in 1911. SURVEY OF WAR REGULATIONS.— A further survey of the war regulations with a view to the eliminating of as many as possible will ba made by the Parliamentary Select Committee at a sitting in Wellington on April 20. There are 15 important regulations to be considered and the committee is inviting public bodies and others interested to submit evidence. Among the regulations are the strike and lock-out emergency regulations, cargo control emergency regulations, the industrial efficiency regulations, and the emergency regulations to the freezing industry.
