LAGOON SILTING

DRAINAGE SUFFERS FELL-MQNGERY PROBLEM A report that trie silting up of the Avvapuni Lagoon had detrimentally affected the drainage of contiguous localities was submitted by the engineer, Mr K. F. Jones, to the Cook County Council at yesterday’s meeting in connection with the investigation of a complaint covering drainage from a fe'lmongery at Awapuni. The engineer reported that the owner of the fellmongerv had done his best to deal with the drainage, and to meet the requirements of the council. Unfortunately owing to the silting of the lagoon the drainage system was not operating effectively. Apart from the fact that pollution tended to take place, there was also the flooding of Awapuni road to consider. The engineer suggested that the whole matter of the drainage in this area be investigated in conjunction with the P.B. Catchment Board. The council adopted the engineer's recommendation, and. on the suggestion of the chairman, Mr E. I-I Baker, decided to invite the Health Department to take part in the investigation.
