ERISKAY NARROWLY WINS CUP - DISAPPOINTING RACE

DUNEDIN CENTENNIAL MEETING

(P.A.) DUNEDIN, Ecb. 27. The Dunedin Jockey Club’s Centennial Cup meeting opened yesterday in fine weather and before a record crowd. The track was in excellent order. The Centennial Cup, which had the largest stake offered for a meeting south of Iticcarlon, was a disappointing race owing to the muddling pace set for most of the journey. The meeting took the place of the autumn one. The totalisator handled £94,091 10s, as against £40,185 on the first day of the autumn meeting last year, which was held on a Saturday. S. Barr, Riccarton, has Lilli Marlene back in work and hopes to have her racing later in the season. She is a half-sister to Pandosto, a promising horse who went to Australia, being by Nightly from Topsy Wood, a Woodend mare from the Nautilus family. Mr. B. Dooley, Amberley, has had the misfortune to lose the Lo Zingaro— Oreti Light gelding, which he purchased recently for 260gns. While being broken in the gelding reared over and broke his back.
