INDIAN PRINCE’S WISH

TO LIVE IN AUSTRALIA COLOUR BAN OBSTACLE (11.30 a.m.) CANBERRA, Feb. 26. An Indian millionaire prince has asked the Prime Minister, Mr. J. B. Chifiey, if he and his wife and three children can settle in Australia. He is Prince Kanwar Manjitindah Singh, of the province of Faridkot, in Hindustan. He came to Australia a fortnight ago to discuss trade and business matters. The prince told Mr. Chifiey that he had developed such a groat liking for Australia that he would like to stay to conduct a trading business between India and Australia. The prince also asked the Minister of Immigration, Mr. A. A. Calwell, if he could help him. The prince said later that both Ministers told him he would be able to stay while engaged in trade with India, but because of the white Australian policy he could not be guaranteed permanent residence.
