KIWI CLUB GIFTS

FOOD FOR BRITAIN GRATEFUL RECIPIENTS NEW EFFORTS PROJECTED Members of the Tairawhiti Kiwi Club who gathered last evening at their clubrooms to inaugurate the new season s series of social functions and cultural activities, learned with much satisfaction of the delivery to addresses in the Unitqd Kingdom of 18 parcels dispatched some weeks ago. Recipients of the food gifts dispatched by the club were nominated by friends of the club, and their gratitude as expressed in letters received during the past few days has been profound. The selection of food items i .eluded in the parcels has proved highly satisfactory, and the fats especially have been welcomed by families who state that adequate edible fats are unobtainable in the Old Country. The timely arrival of the food on reels in the dark winter months has been stressed by almost every recipient from whom an acknowledgment has been received in date, most of whom, incidentally, had some contact with Maori troops during f.he late war.

Further efforts to send parcels were decided on by club members last evening, in a discussion on the new season s activities. These activities will include regular practices for a forthcoming competition for the Tuahine Rangiuta Memorial Shield, presented by Mr. if. H. Stringer, Hastings, to encourage tlie study and practice of Maori forms ot art and particularly the development u singing.

The trophy commemorates the achievements of a Gisborne Mann singer who made a considerable reputation on the concert stage abroad.
