WAIROA BOWLS

ALL-DAY_TOURNEY RECORD ENTRIES FOR CLUB (SR) WAIROA, Feb. 26. When entries for the Wairoa Bowling Club's all-day tournament, to be held j over the coming week-end, closed, it < was found that a record had been < established. No fewer than 36 rinks, < or 144 players, have entered, and the , day promises to be the most successful j in the club’s history. J In order to accommodate all the , rinks it has been found necessary to ; bring the croquet green into use, and < each round will sec two links plajed ] there, but each team will play only once ■ on that area, the other games being , played o n No. 1 green, which lias never been in better order, it being cmimed as the best playing area in either Hawke’s Bay or Gisborne. Whilst No. 2 green is not so fast, nevertheless it should provide a good playing surface. There will be four rounds in the tournament and all teams competing are graded, which should have the effect of making the results very even. Play will commence at 9 a.m.. each round concisling of 14 heads. The prize-money will total £l2.
