SCRIPT MUTILATED

INTENDED APPEAL BROADCAST REFUSAL ADDRESS TO FARMERS (P.A.) WANGANUI, Feb. 25. Because the script he had prepared for broadcasting to assist the aid for Britain appeal had so many deletions made by the National Broadcasting Service, Mr. D. G. Gordon, Taihape, refused permission for the address to be broadcast. He reported this to a meeting of the Wellington central orovincial district of the Federated Farmers at Marlon yesterday. Mr. Gordon said that anything which "’neared in the slightest decree to ren,lct on the Government had boon deleted. In one paragraph he had re"erred to the factors limiting produc'inn in New ' 7 -'"iand at present as ’'cing many and varied, and the 'National Broadcasting Service had deleted the words “any conception of maximum production from New Zealand as a whole was simply wishful thinking." Another paragraph deleted read: “If *ho farmers give wav at this time to f hc nomtlnr urge of minimum work r or maximum pay, no doubt they will ’'avo an easier time, but in the mean,:me Britain may starve and the moral '■•oreo that this country needs to put it on the lines will lie dissipated.” Other portions of the script which met with disapproval from the b’-aarl-"astipe service included an appeal for ’"armors to overcome their political ‘■"elinei! in their response to the call Tor higher production.
