INFLATION IN SHANGHAI SHARES REACH NEW PEAK (1 p.m.) SHANGHAI, Feb. 24. The price of rice today reached a record height of 2,700,000 Chinese dollars per picul (1701 b), an increase of 300,000 Chinese dollars over yesterday, as a result of the lifting of the price ceiling to encourage rice imports into the city. Foreign and Chinese shares continued their rapid rise c tarted a week ago, some being quoted at 20 per cent above yesterday. The black market value of the United States dollar dropped slightly to 267,000 Chinese dollars.
