TAXES COLLECTED DECEMBER £IO,OOO UP YEAR’S TOTAL £356,172 Collections of dues at the Gisborne office of the Customs Department continues to show rising trends, and during December businessmen of the district paid almost £IO,OOO more into the coffers of the State through the office than in the corresponding month of 1946.

A startling increase in the sales tax collection. £6OOO. was a feature of the month’s statistics.

For December £41,372 6s 5d was collected through the Gisborne office, this figure including some miscellaneous items, but the main headings being shown as below, with the corresponding figures for 1946: —
