PROOF BY EXPERIENCE NEAR STARVATION DIET NEW YORK, Nov. 28. The Rev. Phillip Sarles, Chicago Congregational minister, who has been living on a diet of 1200 calories'a day, said today that he had found the experience “plenty rugged.” He had been voluntarily living near starvation point to show members of his congregation why they should conserve food and contribute to European relief. He also wantedto find out really how badly Europeans were suffering. “I know now,” said Mr. Sarles. “I have been hungry every day since I started. I lost 101 b in three weeks.” Mr. Sarles said the period of 30 days, which he set himself as a fair test, ended on Thanksgiving Day, so he started back on typical American food with a meal of roast turkey, plus all the trimmings.
