SAVAGE FIGHTING
ATTACKS_ON CITIES BATTLES IN N. CHINA VERY TENSE SITUATION (N.Z.P.A. —Reuter—Copyright.) (10.30 a.m.) SHANGHAI, Dec. 15. Intense Communist activity on both sides of the Peking-Mukden railway in East Manchuria is reported today as the Communist three-pronged push against the North Honan cities of Kaifeng and Chengchow is gathering momentum. The Chinese Government is reported to be closely watching developments in Western Manchuria as new activity might prelude another Communist general offensive. Fierce fighting is still progressing around Kaifeng, where Nationalist dispatches state that the situation is “very tense.” These surprising Communist attacks are regarded in Nanking as diversionary in view of the grave danger of General Liu Po Cheng’s forces in the Taipeh Mountains. These forces face complete annihilation.
