ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT

“Cui Bono”: Declined. ' \ SHEEP STATION WORK Sir.—l noticed with interest that New Zealand would like to see some of Scotland’s young shepherds migrate out here to overcome the labour shortage on the farms. There would be no shortage of shepherds and farm workers if the farmers were to make things a litttle more pleasant and worthwhile. We all know the 40-hour week wouldn’t work on the farm, but the farmers could give the workers Saturday afternoon off and increase the wages, as they are too low to live on these days especially when one sees that clothing and footwear are going up in price. I read in recent papers of a nine months’ back-pay and an extra 5s a week for all farm workers, but so far nothing' has come of it. Is it still coming or was it just a tonic for the weary shepherds to help them through the busy period? The sheepfarmer is reaping in the high prices for his meat etc., but tn* shepherd, who is the mai n spoke in the wheel, is long forgotten SHEPHERD’S WIFE.
