BIG TOURIST OPENING
N.Z.’S OPPORTUNITIES AUSTRALIAN VISITORS (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Dec. 15. “New Zealand with so much to offer is the answer to the desire of Australians to travel. They will come all right when travel facilities get back to normal and if New Zealand is ready for them, there is a very big opening,” said Mr. A. E. Rudder, former chairman of Tasman Empire'Airways and a director of Qantas Airways. “Australians used to fill the ships for New Zealand in the hoilday season and there is no reason why they should not come again and in bigger numbers,” he added.' “Travel to Britain and Europe is difficult now and will probably remain so for some time. Dollars are too hard to find for American or Canadian travel, and so New Zealand is the obvious choice of the Australian who wants to make a holiday outside of his own conntry.” Asked what he thought of Paraparaumu as a suitable airport, Mr. Rudder replied: “Well, I am out of the air business now and will leave it to others who follow on. but I can tell you this—No Australian city or town that I know of would be happy with an aerodrome 35 or 40 miles out.”
