POLES GO HOME.—Polish children returning home after spending the war years in New Zealand, a party of Pitcairn Islanders, and a group of Royal New Zealand Air Force officers transferring to the Royal Air Force were included in the passenger list of the liner Rimutaka, which left Auckland at noon on Saturday for London. WOOL EXPERTS’ VISIT.—The general manager of the Joint Organisation, Wool Disposals, Mr. F. S. Arthur, and the chief technical officer. Mr. J. A. Harrison, have left London by air for Australia and New Zealand to establish personal contact between the organisation’s principal executives and to arrange for close unity of practice. They will spend a month in Australia and a month in New Zealand. STALIN’S HEALTH REPORT.—A Women’s Christian Temperance Union meeting at Port Huron, Canada, alleged that Marshal Stalin was laid low by vodka. Mrs. Dora Whitney, the State president, told delegates that Marshal Stalin “is apparently in retirement and I will give you three guesses what put him there,” but she commended him for going on the wagon. “I wish the representatives of other nations could take the same stand,” she added.
