GUNDAGAI’S BUNYIP MYSTERY

(10 a.m.) SYDNEY, September 22. Two stories are current concerning' Australia’s mythical acquatic monster, the bunyip. Gundagai residents are forming parties to hunt a strange creature, which some say is a bunyip, seen in a lagoon about seven miles from the town.

Two men who claim, to have seen it this week say it lias a body more than lift.' long, is covered with hair, and has a thick swan-like neck. A month later they heard a heavy splashing and saw something swimming upstream at a walking pace. The neck was tine same size as the top of the head and about 9in- thick. The creature stood about a foot out of the water and spouted sft. in the air from what appeared to be its neck. It had two bright eyes but no ears. The men followed the creature until it turned into the opposite bank, emitting a shrill whistle which could be heard half a mile away. Guesses are that the mysterious swimmers are a seal escaped from a travelling circus, an amphibious sheep, a musk duck, or one of the local residents
