SUBSTANTIAL SALE SHEEPFARM AT MOTU SALES COMMITTEE SITS One of the most substantial transactions handled by the Gisborne Land Sales Committee in recent months was submitted for approval on Thursday at the committee’s weekly sitting. It was a proposal for the sale of a Tolaga Bay sheep-farm of 2346 acres freehold and 1141 acres leasehold, at £18,074 for the land and goodwill, and £9426 for stock and chattels included in the sale. The committee was informed that the property had been submitted to the Rehabilitation Department for servicemen’s settlement, but that it had not been adjudged suitable for this purpose. One of two brothers named as the purchasers in the present transaction was a discharged serviceman.

The special Crown valuation on the property and stock was £27,500, coinciding with the price agreed between the parties, and the committee approved the sale without hearing other evidence. A Motu district farm of 635 i acres was submitted for approval at £3490, in a family transaction, and the special Crown valuation being within a few pounds of the agreed price the committee granted the application. With the exception of a 54-acre farmlet at Tamarau, which was subject to an increase in rent from £33 15s per anuum to £44 per annum under a renewal of lease; and a IGI-acre leasehold property at Patutahi in respect of which the sale of goodwill was approved at £7O, the remainder of the applications heard at the sitting concerned residential properties.
