BROADCASTING FACILITIES
Sir, —The various letters in your columns have interested me and I feel that another point of view may be of some assistance in finding a solution. To me the idea of pressing for a new transmitter and studio at the present time is inappropriate when there are two stations on the air and in view of the lack of building materials and accommodation necessary to the plans of the National Broadcasting Service.
Why not press for an extension of time on the air for 2ZM, which station at the moment is restricted to 22 hours weekly? v Various speakers at Chamber of Commerce and council meetings have spoken highly of the’service provided by 2ZM’s owner, and to me an extension of hours appears the logical solution meantime.
I would add that I have only been resident in the district for two years, having come from Wellington, and can say that the programmes that are broadcast from 2ZM compare more than favourably with the ZB’s efforts. It is also pleasant to be able to telephone one’s appreciation of a particular programme to the owner and not to a disinterested telephone operator, is so often the case in a city. “AUDIO.”
