AMERICAN COMMODITIES BUYERS BAN GROWING (10 a.m.) NEW YORK, Sept. 18. Wholesale prices of 31 basic foods reached the highest level ever recorded in the week ended September 16 according to Dun and Bradstreet’s index. The United Press says a survey showed that retail prices in 10 widely scattered cities had risen rapidly during the past fortnight A spot check of 10 representative cities showed that housewives were taking the Government’s advice and buyer resistance was developing against butter and eggs, causing the volume of retail meat business to decline still further.
