RADAR FOR KETCH
NAVIGATION IN ISLANDS (P.A) WELLINGTON, Aug. 20. A commencement has been made with the fitting ot radar to the Works Depariment’s motor ketch Ranui which is used for servicing meteorological stations on outlying islands. . The ketch is clue to depart for a visit to the Campbell Islands next week to transport stores for the meteorologists there and to take an additional technician to the islands . „ An official of the Works Department said the value of radar _ equipment would be considrable in aiding navigation to isolated islands such as the Campbell Islands as overcast conditions in the south at this time ot the year made navigation by the sun or stars almost impossible. , The radar equipment is being fi-terl by Government radar technicians front the Dominion laboratory at Gracelield.
