£250 FINE IMPOSED
BOOKMAKER IN COURT (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Aug. 12. A fine of £250 and costs was imposed by Mr. R. Ferner, S.M., in the Magistrate’s Court; on William Thomas C-oul-thard, aged 43, clerk, when he made a voluntary appearance on a charge of carrying on the business of a bookmaker on August 9. Detective-Sergeant A. A. Herron said the defendant had taken £7O in bets and was in a fair way of business on his own account. He had been before the Court four times, and had been fined £2OO on the last occasion.
