RECRUITING DRIVE

Y.F.C. MEMBERSHIP WAIRARAPA VISITORS A concerted membership drive will be undertaken by the members of the Gisborne Young Farmers’ Club following a decision made on Thursday evening at a meeting of the club. All of the 15 members present were given the task of introducing one or several new members to build up the strength of the organisation. Since the formation of the Manutuke club, the Gisborne club roll, it was said, had remained at 27. and the executive was advised by its senior advisory members to do its utrnpst to increase the following of the movement, in which so much was to be learned by the young farmer of the district. At tiie meeting the chairman. Mr. J. Ideas!ip. presided over an attendance of 42. which included the 25 visiting Wairarapa young farmers who were on a tour of the Gisborne, Opotiki and Rotorua districts. The chief speakers of the evening were the secretary of the P.B. Catchment Board. Mr. A. G. Hicks, who gave a summary of the work and duties of the board, and the board's engineer, Mr. A. D. Todd, followed with an address on the side of the work upon which he was engaged. Mr. Todd explained the types and dangers of erosion and bow the wearing down process could be baited and the situation retrieved At the conclusion of the addresses both speakers were accorded a vole of thanks.

The spokesman of the Wairarapa party expressed the thanks of the touring group to the Gisborne club members. Mr J. Haskins, Manutuke, Mr. J. E. V. Simpson, officer in charge of the Manutuke research station, and Mr. G. V. Smith. Waitaria, for their hospitality during the day. He said the party had been intensely interested in the citrus, research station and the stock and farm machinery at Waitaria.

The visitors left Gisborne yesterday for Opotiki in continuation of their lour.
