BASKETBALL CONTROL

CALL FOR REFEREES GAMES IN P.B. AREA An appeal for the co-operation of supporters prepared to assist in the control of games was made in the report presented on Thursday night at the annual meeting of the Poverty Bay Basketball Referees’ Association. The report indicated that, with the consL.enable increase in the number of teams competing, additional referees were required urgently. Thanks were expressed to Miss McCallu.n. the retirmg secretary, in appreciation of her services extending over two seasons, and to all who had assisted in the period under review. Miss M. Whyte, representative of the association at the New Zealand council meeting in Tauranga, was also thanked for her able services and congratulations weie extended to her on her appointment as a referee in the tournament. The report recorded that two local referees’ examinations . were held. Twelve local candidates took the theoretical section and nine gained 75 per cent or better. One Tolaga Bay candidate and one from Te Araroa were also successful. Six local candidates passed the practical test and received the silver badge of the association donated by Mrs. L. F. Sceats. Mrs. H. McLeod gained K7£ per cent in passing the re-exannnation of the N.Z.B.R.A. Those present at the meeting included: Mesdames L. F. Sceats. chairman. M. Ashton, A. R. McLeod. Misses K. Lunken, L. Babbington, N. McCarthy. A. Sutton, M. Robinson, M. Whyte, J. Fischback, D. Robinson. Officers were elected as follows: President, Mrs A R. McLeod; vicepresident, Miss M. Whyte; secretary, Miss M. Mawe; delegate to P.8.8.A., Miss M. Robinson. The local t 1 heretical examination will be held on May 26. Miss Robinson is to act e; supervisor. Mesoamrs M. Ashton and A. R. McLecd and Miss M. Whyte were elected to the examination board. Meebncs are to be held on the second Tuesday of each month.
