WOMEN'S DIVISION

GOOD ATTENDANCES NEW NAME, NEW QUARTERS Opening with the National Anthem and recital of the Creed, the annual meeting of the W.D.F.F. was held on Wednesday, April 23, in Chrisp’s buildings. Mrs. A. H. Jackman presided over a large attendance. The financial report and balance sheet were presented by the retiring treasurer, Mrs. K. Ensor. In her report, the president called notice to the new name of the division and said that it had been in its new quarters for about a year. Attendance at meetings had Deen excellent and each month a food parcel had been sent to Britain by the group in charge of the tea. Several grateful letters had been received. Eighteen parcels had been sent, as well as five extra ones donated by various members and packed and dispatched by Miss F. Black. The two jumble sales during the year had realised approximately £l6O, the money being divided between the headquarters building fund in Wellington. the obstetrical chair fund, and the division’s rest homes, the balance going to the Gisborne branch funds. During the year members of country branches had been the Gisborne branch’s guests at two meetings and several Gisborne members had visited the Tolaga Bay branch for one meeting. Thanks were offered to Mrs. C. Blackburn for generously allowing the October meeting to be held in her garden. During the year Miss Black had been able to secure several housekeepers for the housekeeping scheme. Mrs. Jackman, on behalf of the members, gave special thanks to Mr. George Chrisp, the branch landlord, for his cooperation and generosity at all times. Winners of Competitions The silver cup annual competition for “The Best in My Garden” was again won by Mrs. Douglas Blair, with Mesdames R. Graham and F. J. Mills second and third respectively. The group leader for, the afternoon was Mrs. R. Graham, with Mesdames H. Telford, J. Blair, J. G. Appleton. H. O. McFarlane, N. Russell, S. McGuinness, W. Sheriff, and R. D. Dymock. Dainty shoulder sprays, the work of Mrs. Juliet Williams, were presented by Mrs. Carleton Williams to the president, treasurer and secretary.
