“NO WAVERING”

BELLONA MEN WILL REMAIN ABSENT (P.A.) AUCKLAND, May 1. “'if one of us is arrested, all the remaining absentees from the cruiser Bellona will return to the ship so that all may face whatever is coming to us to aether.” This was a statement made today by the spokesmen lor the ratings who were absent without leave from the cruiser. They said that they were determined to remain absent, unless arrested, until such thie as their grievances were satisfactorily met. Their morale was high, they added, and at a meeting they held, rumours of their wavering ‘'were treated with derision.” The spokesmen continued: “We have ample funds and are perfectly satisfied with our present mode of living, which is a vast improvement on naval life. We are prepared to stay out indefinitely if the Naval Board is prepared to make no move. We have no intention of being coerced into returning to the ‘spider's web,' or frightened into submission by a whispering campaign.”
