21 HOURS TO CAPE
FLIGHT _RECORD “JUST A CANTER” MOSQUITO AT CAPE TOWN (11.15 a.m.) CAPE TOWN, May 1. A R.A.P. Mosquito aircraft piloted by an Australian, Squadron-Leader H. B. Martin, today broke the London to Cape Town air record by 10 hours 50 minutes. The Mosquito touched down at Cape Tov/n after a flight of 21 hours 31 minutes. The R.A.F. Lancaster Aries first established the previous record in 1945. Squadron-Leader Martin said: “It was just a canter,” and added that the whole trip was so well organised that the plane just had to break the record.
