GAYJAX'S FORM IMPRESSES FOR GISBORNE ENGAGEMENT

Form Guide For ’ fffflees

(HERALD Special Service) THERE is every indication of the P.B. Turf Club’s autumn meeting to-morrow and Monday furnishing most interesting racing as the fields, are of a very even nature, with nothing outstanding in any event, so that speculation should be rife and well divided among the various contestants. The Makaraka track is in great order and it is doubtful if it was ever better as the recent rain has proved most beneficial. The going will not be fast, but firm without sting. Visitors from Hawke’s Bay and the north are engaged, but they will meet with keen competition from the Gisborne-owned and trained contestants. The first race is timed to start at 11.30 a.m. and the last at 4.10 p.m., which gives everyone concerned ample time to be back home or to attend other business before dark.

WAINUI HURDLES Endurance, 10.4, has not raced for some time, but is a lightly-fleshed gelding that races well fresh, and with a track to his liking will find favour with the public. He will be bracketed with Embassy, 9.0, who has not shown much form of late years Gayjax, 9.11, is in rare racing order and no matter which race he starts in, this or the hurdles, will make his presence felt. Vassilikos, 9.11, has raced prominently at Makaraka before. With a track to his liking and improved with the two races he had on the flat at Hastings, he should be somewhere near his best. Gold Lad. 9.3, is having his first hurdle race. He jumps fairly well, lacking confidence just yet. Regal Don, 9.0, might surprise as in a big field on .the first day of the Bay of Plenty meeting he was third —form good enough to say that he will be dangerous now as that race is sure to have done him good. Luxor, 9.0, has not raced so that the handicapper has taken a risk with a horse who has not started before in giving him the minimum. He might be a Painsano or a Continuance. Air Warden, 9.0, has had four or five hurdle races this season and not once did he race prominently, a very moderate fifth being his best effort. Shepherd’s Call, 9.0, is another with no form. Sterling Gold, 9.0, made a show at Hastings the first day of the autumn meeting, when he fell at the last fence when on even terms with the ultimate winner. WAIPAOA HACK Merry Bing, 910, is a smart hack and he will need to be, too, as his present impost is one that will test Mrs. “Bob” Biggar’s gelding. Amuri, 9.5, was not taken to Levin last week, but reserved for this race. He goes a good six furlongs, but should the going be soft will not go as well as otherwise. Find Out, 8.2, is not coming up to the grade that was earlier predicted. He is not a bad sort of his class, but will have to do better than he did in the early autumn when his weakness appeared to be lack of fighting spirit at the end of a race. Clive Belle, 8.0, is not racing as well as expected. At Wairoa' she certainly won a double in convincing manner, but since then has not raced up to that form. Kincrop, 7.12, on his last visit to Gisborne tore of a “beaut.” Will he do it again? Village Squire, 7.11, won very easily at Waipulcurau on Easter Monday and on that form is to be respected now. Dainty Moti, 7.9, is hard to follow; sometimes she does it and sometimes she does not. Sheik of Araby, 7.9, appears to have done his punch since surprisingly winning in the spring. Hazrinc, 7.9, has speed and although she has disappointed once or twice is just the type to upset calculations. Ranger Boy, 7.9, won a race in October at Thames, but has not been in the money since. Quaint Song, 7.8, won a maiden event at the last Makaraka meeting—her only earnings to date. She is a rising seven-year-old. Merciful, 7.7, is also in the Maiden. On his first day’s Hastings running he should win a race, but he seems destinued to play a minor part. St. Bill, 7.7, has little form to recommend him. Comedy Star, 7.7, has not won a race since his last visit to Gisborne in the spring. Will be repeat that dose? Lavish Lady, 7.7, is going to be hard to place successfully on the turf. Gentleman Joe, 7.7, has earned no more than his present impost, but maybe this time he will do the trick. Day March, 7.7, has no form. Mayfall, 7.7, has no form, and may prefer the maiden class. WAIKANAE HACK HCP. Dark Flash, 9.0, has been running mast consistently of late and in his present form must be very hard to beat. Highforin, 8.11, with only one race to his credit, never runs a poor race. He ran two good races in hack events at Hastings, being close up both times.

Becalm, B.G, was a winner at his last attempt and on that Hastings form may be one of the best backed now. Big Wonder, 8.2, is now getting on towards the veteran stage, but, like old wine, he is not deteriorating with age. Master Garry, 8.2, won the Highweight on March 1 at Masterton and has not raced since so that his supporters have winning form to back their opinions on. Blackwater, 8.1. was fourth at Hastings recently His presence does not make the solving of this race any the easier. Master Peter, 7.13, won at the last Gisborne meeting the first day, but was well licked in his next up. Is he a firstday horse? Autofly, 7.9, won at Wairoa earlier in the year. He is in the right order and the distance should suit him. He has an outside chance. Lorenzo, 7.G, is also in .the Maiden. This II Duce gelding has been a sad disappointment since the spring, when he showed distinct promise. Cambridge, 7.5, over a mile in his last effort at Hastings was noticed finishing on. impressively. If there is a surprise in store in this event it might be provided by this Foxbridge-Btue Garter three-year-old. Shepherd's Call, 7.5, may prefer the Hurdles. Uawa Susan, 7.5, has not raced. GISBORNE STEEPLES' INDIAN SUN, 10.11, was a promising 'chaser earlier in his career and has won in good company, with a Wanganui Steeplechase to his credit. He would be all the better with a race, but no liberties are to be taken with him. GAYJAX, 9.13, has started twice over country for two thirds so he has a little form but in his favour is his racing condition. BIG WONDER, 9.2, has not yet started in a race over country, but might be a surprise packet if produced as Bob Fenton generally has them well schooled wh.en he sends them to the post. PLAIN BOY, 9.1, may be the pacemaker for the first mile and a half at least. He is a fast jumper, but is not one to invite confidence as he is not the finished article and "floats” over his fences often which is indeed risky. BRITISH SPORT, 9.0, has not raced since the spring, when over hurdles he was not very impressive. BETTERVIEW, 9.0, was made favourite over country at Ohinemuri in March to finish fourth the first day, but on the second day did not shape so well. However, he is not to be left out of a final summing-up. CHAMPEEN, 9.0, has never raced. MAIDEN STAKES No. I (All Bst.)

Young Bill has not raced, but is reputed to be one that will come right, but maybe at the moment six furlongs is a little too far. Master Moli is another that has yet to sport silk. Betty Baffles has not raced this year, but in the 1945-46 season started seven times for as many unplacings. Mayfall is a live-year-old with one start and no form. Butte has yet to win a race, but has been unlucky. This half-brother to King’s Ransom might pull this one off. Run Bahadur can do, but seldom does, his best with the colours up. Merciful, on his close second at Hastings, might win. However, he has been trying to win a maiden event for the last three seasons. Gondolino did not run well enough at Hastings to suggest her winning now, but the trip and the racing experience will help her for later engagements. High Praise has a recent third to her credit and enters calculations. Mountaineer and Elskar are without racing experience. MAIDEN STAKES No. 2 (All Bst.) Invest, the Golden Blonde Ally, and Ilikuwai have yet to face the official starter. Lorenzo, on the score of condition and experience, is given a chance, but at Hastings he wag never in the call either day

Silver Mimic has not raced Miss Vanity, a half-sister to King’s Ransom, has had a little racing experience, but has not been in the money. Hawke’s Bay has been, racing well enough to suggest her being one of the favourites now. Bainbridge so far in his few efforts has not been seen near the front. Day March is yet another that has not raced. Lady Oral in her one start this season was prominent for half a mile and then died out. Maybe she is the “dark horse” of this field. Johannes has no racing experience.

TE HAPARA HANDICAP UNITED NATIONS, 9.0, should have a track to her liking, but is a mile far enough for her to give of her best? NIGIITFOE, 8.12, has her share of weight and will need to be at her best to beat the top-weight. CINNA BAY, 8.7, will have a smaller field to contend with and she may be hard to beat. LANDFALL, 8.3, in eight starts this season has not been in the money once. GOLD WATCH, 8.0, is bracketed with United Nations, so that this combination is sure to attract attention. LADY DELIGHT, 7.7, has yet to win in open company. Her best as a hack was over a shorter course. GOLD LAD, 7.7, is a lightweight possibility, but he ran two totally different races at Hastings. ULATIS,. 7.7, also on the minimum, is just an outside shot.

KAITI HACK HANDICAP Dark Flash, 8.13, is an unlikely starter in this event. Omaio, 8.11, has only to reproduce his second day’s form at Hastings to win now, but will he? Flying Dink, 8.10, has not won since her spring success on the Makaralca course. Maybe she has been keeping her best for her return trip. The Scotchman, B.C, is not coming up to expectations. However, having filled out and furnished, he might do what was predicted of him 12 months ago. Favaals, 7.11, with six thirds and a second this season to her credit, may be a possibility now. High Profit, 7.7, has no form because he has not raced. The balance of the acceptors for this race have earlier engagements and will have shown their form, which might be helpful in summing up this event.
