INTEREST EVINCED

WAINUI IMPROVEMENTS SUCCESSFUL YEAR RESIDENTS ASSISTED The interest evinced in the improvement of the settlement of the Wainui Beach district was demonstrated on Tuesday night, when 44 residents attended the annual meeting of the Wainui Settlers' Association. In presenting the annual report, the president. Mr. Lawson Field, stated that the committee had held eight meetings during the year, in addition to tours of inspection, and a deputation to the Cook County Council. Various matters affecting Wainui were investigated and reported on last evening. The sanitation collection was an important matter, and during the summer months provision had been made lor a twice-weekly collection, said Mr. Field. After several speakers had been heard last night, it was decided that the Cook County Council should be asked to provide a twice-weekly collection throughout the year. It was pointed out that although the Association had been instrumental in having suitable road signs erected stating speed limits in the built-in area, some motorists were taking no notice of L.e signs, and the meeting considered that the speed limit should be enforced. According to the report, the association was also instrumental in assisting picnickers at the beach, safe fireplace.-. having been built, which would lessen the risk of a general fire, while a water tank had been erected at the Okitu Bridge end of the beach. Arrangements were made during the vear, and subsequently two street lights were erected It was hoped that further installations will be made when conditions permitted.
