TOKOMARU BAY R.S.A.
SUCCESSFUL YEAR’S WORK (Herald Correspondent.) A good muster of members attended the annual meeting of the Tokomaru Bay R.S.A., held after the Anzac Day service. After a few moments’ silence as a mark of respect for those who did not return or who had died during the past year, the president. Mr. S. Lyle-Smythe, reported on the past year’s activities. He spoke of the hard work done by the committee, and mentioned particularly the secretary, Mr. E. J. Knox. In thanking the committee for their assistance, Mr. Lyle-Smythe stated that he would not be seeking re-election. The balance sheet showed a very sound financial position and there was an increase in membership of nearly 60 names. While the two re-unions held during the year had been run at a slight loss, the- annual ball and the ladies’ night had both been a financial success. Considerable discussion took place as to the advisability of holding one or two re-unions during the year. The past year was the first time that two had been held and it was the majority opinion of the meeting that this practice be again followed. It was also decided to hold the annual ball as usual on the King’s Birthday. Many members spoke of the -hard work done by the retiring secretary and it was decided to present Mr. Knox with a fountain pen in appreciation of his work. It was also decided to set aside lOgns. each year as an honorarium for the secretary. The election of officers resulted:— Patron. Mr. A. B. Williams; president, Mr, P. McCallum; vice-presidents, Messrs. A. N. Wilkinson, McMillan. W. S. Thompson, F. R. Jefferd, J. Busby. T. Beavon. E. J. Knox and S. Lyle-Smythe; secretary. Mr. W. C. Brydon; committee, Messrs. F.
