BONDS OF ANZAC
TWO DOMINIONS EXCHANGE OF VISITS AUSTRALIAN’S HOPES The exchange of visits by delegations of Australian and New Zealand exservicemen for the Anzac Day anniversary has prompted the High Commissioner for Australia in this Dominion to express the hope that this will lead to a more substantial exchange in the early future. The High Commissioner, Mr. A. R. Cutler, V.C., has written on this subject to the Gisborne Returned Services’ Association, recalling the visit of a large number of New Zealanders to Sydney in 1938, when the Monowai and Maunganui were chartered specially for the mission. The idea of a reunion on such a scale was an outstanding success, stated Mr. Cutler, and he expressed the opinion that something even bigger than the 1938 visit could be looked for at an early date. “May I, as an Australian ex-service-man who saw something of your Kiwis overseas, pay my small tribute to their achievements, and express my admiration for their qualities as sailors, soldiers and airmen,” adds Mr. Cutler. “Also, I should like to pay my respects to the memory of those New Zealanders who made the supreme sacrifice.”
