CENTRAL MARKETS DEMAND MAINTAINED Chinese gooseberries, feijoas, passionfruit, and tree tomatoes, all ot which are produced in this district though not to the extent which climatic and soil conditions would permit, have been selling well in the main centres during the past week, despite the larger volume of supplies now reaching the markets. Messrs. Townsend and Paul, Wellington, report that all lines of the abovenamed small fruits have met with a ready sale. Peaches and nectarines also have been in steady demand, while Cape gooseberries, quinces, grapes and mushrooms have been placed to advantage. Flower auctions in Wellington have been well attended, chrysanthemums and violets being in particularly keen demand. Larger supplies of varieties of vegetables have come to hand, values in the main having remained steady. Kumaras are still wanted, while most varieties of roots have been placed at ceiling pi'ices. Smaller yardings of poultry have been offered, prices for prime birds again being firm.
