March 28. “I think the jury has taken a very merciful view of the charges against you,” said Mr. Justice Owen, in passing sentence of 12 years’ gaol for manslaughter on Clifford James Ernest Kennedy, aged 22, a truck driver. The jury found the accused not guilty on a charge of the murder of Mrs, Ada Amelia Lambert, aged 45, in Cooper Park. The worst that could be said about Kennedy, said counsel for the defence, was that on the day of the tragedy, he was very drunk and sex crazy.
