Shortage of Hardwood
“The disturbing position that has arisen in connection with the supply of hardwood poles and crossarms, which now extends to all users of hardwood throughout New Zealand, has been confirmed by a circular recently received from the State Forest Service,” stated a letter from the Electric-Power Boards and Supply Authorities’ Association received at Monday’s meeting of the Waiternata Electric-Power Board. “About 38,000 tons of hardwood awaits shipment from Australia to New Zealand, and further efforts are being made by this association, in conjunction with various Government departments and other interested organisations, to secure the services of two suitable vessels to enter the timber trade between our two countries.” .. .....
